Gambling industry and sports: international aspects and interaction problems
Asser Press, a Dutch legal literature publisher, has released the book “Sports Betting: law and policy” dedicated to one of the most acute legal and political problems – on interaction of gambling industry and sports.
Sports-related gambling industry is an extremely contradictory and specific sphere of activity. It may be beneficial for sports, bringing in more financing, attracting more attention to sports events, etc. – or it may discredit sports by venal aspirations of corruptionists and frauds.
The book was edited by renowned sports lawyers – Professor Paul M.Anderson, Professor Ian S.Blackshow, Professor Robert S.R.Zickman and DPh Ianwilliam Soek. Apart from analytic articles, the book contains reviews of national legislation of over 40 countries of the world.
The chapter “Lotteries, bookmaker’s offices and totalizators in Russia” of the book is written by the Senior Lawyer of the Law Firm "YUST" Mikhail Prokopets together with the legal consultant of the Russian Football Union Denis Rogachev.
In the chapter its authors tell:
- What requirements are set by the Russian legislation for all organizers of gambling;
- What peculiarities of legal governing should be noted when advertising gambling;
- What the difference is between the legal status of a totalizator and that of a bookmaker’s office;
- How is the activity of bookmakers’ offices and totalizators licensed in Russia and what taxes they must pay;
- How Russian legislation governs the relations in the sphere of lotteries and what legal gaps have not yet been filled.
