In the land of creativity: tendencies in the area of industrial rights in Russia

The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Delegation of the European Union to Russia and the Wismar Eastern Institute held on October 18, 2011 a conference “In the land of creativity: tendencies in the area of industrial rights protection in Russia”. Leading experts and specialists from Russia and the EU took part in the event. Advocate Denis Shumskiy represented the Law Firm "YUST".

Topical issues of protection of rights of the entrepreneurs conducting their business in Russia were discussed during the conference. Among these were:

• Possibilities of intellectual rights protection in the Internet, in particular trademark rights and copyright;
• Means of combating dishonest rightholders, who avail themselves of gaps in the regulations and acquire exclusive rights to useful models, which are, in essence, generally available and well-known technical decisions;
• Modern tendencies in the practice of the Supreme Court of Arbitration of the Russian Federation regarding the application of norms of compensation for violation of rights to the results of intellectual activity.

Participants of the event were able to discuss concrete domain disputes and other cases from the practice of intellectual property rights protection as well as share their experience of resolving conflict situations in this area.
