MMM’s protégé registers the trademark of the opposition
Akim Palchaev, an aspiring Eurovision participant, will defend the trademark of the Coordination Council from the Kremlin’s provocations and help the political prisoners by selling souvenirs.
The member of the Coordination Council (CC) of the opposition and former aspiring Eurovision-2008 participant wishes to register the trademark “Coordination Council of the opposition of Russia”. Abdul Akim Palchaev filed with Rospatent an application to register the mark of the opposition in the form of a “circle with eight rays radiating from it” and the inscription “CCO of Russia”.
The application was filed under the 16th (paper articles) and 25th (clothes, footwear, headwear) classes of the ICGS. Palchaev plans to start producing pens, notebooks, T-shirts and mugs with the CC symbols, and to use the proceeds from the sales in the creation of a fund of support for the political prisoners and organizational costs of the opposition.
Palchaev told “Izvestia”: “I will keep the control over the trademark. I can’t thrust the others yet”.
Should he succeed, he will be able to manufacture and sell goods with the CCO logo, and if his rights to the trademark are violated, he may go to courts and exact from the offenders compensation of up to 5 million roubles, as the law provides.

The application may also be denied on the ground that it uses the word “Russia”: the law prohibits the use of state symbols without “approval by a competent body”, points out Advocate Denis Shumskiy of the Law Firm "YUST".
The oppositionist will have to wait 10 months to 1,5 years, which is what the procedure normally takes. Labzin explains that the trademark will not be protected during that period, but no other person will be able to register it for himself.
As Palchaev explaiuned to “Izvestia”, the registration also aims at protection of the CCO’s image from the Kremlin-supporting youth.
