Road to Profession - 2011

21.10.2011

The award ceremony for the winners of the All-Russian competition of the students’ scientific papers “Road to Profession – 2011” took place on October 20, 2011. Marina Lushechkina, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Law of M.V.Lomonosov Moscow State University (MGU), Deputy Chief Editor of “Legal Insight” magazine, inaugurated the event. She thanked all participants for their interest and activity. A total of 92 papers from over 50 universities of 40 Russian cities were sent. The papers were evaluated by the following criteria: urgency of the chosen theme, high scientific level and practical significance. The jury of experts awarded extra points for creative thinking during the search for resolutions of legal collisions and individuality shown.

Evgeny Sukhanov, Honorary Chairman of the Jury, Professor, Doctor at Law, Head of the Civil Law Chair of the MGU Law Faculty, expressed his satisfaction at the fact that the competition had already been stimulating the student’s interest towards civil law for several years. The papers sent to the competition show that the numbers of really good students keep increasing, despite the worn saying that “in the past the youth was better”.

He said: “Future lawyers do not confine themselves to the framework of Russian law. They are open for positive international experience, reconsideration of international innovations, modern and classical works of leading figures of legal science”.

Nikita Teplov was proclaimed as an absolute winner of the competition. Alexey Popov, Partner and Advocate at the Firm, handed him the award. In the name of the Firm, he expressed gratitude to the organizers of the competition: “Not only was I given a possibility to speak in the name of the Company, which had founded one of the nominations, but also, as a MGU graduate, to visit once again my alma mater. That is why this day is especially emotional for me”.

He was glad to note that the numbers of dedicated lawyer students kept growing. Alexey Popov said: “They are interested in the profession not only for the motive – and not much for this motive – of large future earnings, but they also look for showing their individual worth. That is why our younger colleagues have real possibilities to make a successful career and to contribute more to the science than we did”.

The event ended in a round table. The winners and laureates of the competition learned from the invited practitioneers how to become a lawyer after receiving the diploma of higher education. Tatiana Starikova, Advocate at the Firm, represented the Firm. She advised the future lawyers to never give up, when facing complicated tasks set by the bosses, to be ready for their own and others’ mistakes, for hours of computer work, difficulties of communication with the authorities. She noted: “A member of our profession should keep in mind that he studies every day. The main thing here is the accumulation of a certain load of knowledge, which will be really useful to you, no matter if it was acquired through losses or gains”.
