The situation around the Russian food embargo collects ridiculous cases: the authorities are hard put to ensure the execution of their determination to limit the importation of provisions from Western countries.
Alexander Petrov, Advocate of the Law Firm "YUST", commented for the Nezavisimaya Gazeta newspaper on the bold initiative of the Public Chamber to implement criminal liability for trade in the goods under sanctions: "The reducing of the economic regulation to criminal liability by itself is excessive and incorrect. The goods under sanctions somehow gent into commerce. Thus the problem is not so much with the sellers as it is with those authorities that should prevent such supplies. Perhaps it would make sense to search for those to blame at the customs border and in the respective controlling bodies, and not in stores?"
