The State Duma announces an amnesty
The State Duma announced an amnesty due to the 20th anniversary of the Constitution. The document was published in Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
This is not the first time the State pardons criminals. For example, 12,5 thousand of Russians were generally pardoned in 2006 in connection with the centennial of the State Duma creation. In July, an amnesty for economic offences was announced. The new document was timed to the anniversary of the Organic Law of our country.
Those who committed their crimes while being still under age will be pardoned from their punishments – conditional as well as real. The criminal cases involving such citizens, where the investigation is still in course, will also be closed. Besides, the amnesty encompasses those who have never been to correctional institutions and those sentenced to less than 5 years jailtime. Advocate Alexander Petrov of the Law Firm "YUST" explained to the audience of Russia 24 TV channel what an amnesty is and who is subject to it, as a rule.
