The State Duma wants to implement patents for freelances in the media

Ekaterina Boldinova, Senior Associate of the Law Firm "YUST", commented for the Vedomosti newspaper on the amendments to the Tax Code, which will expand the list of the types of commercial activity with patent taxation by adding “activity of freelance journalists”: Each region uses its own procedure of calculating the value of the patent – it is 6% of the estimated return. If a person does not register as an IE and does not pay taxes, it is an offence punishable with a fine. But the journalists’ income is not so high: the transition to the patent makes sense only for those, who leases real estate, and whose income is 10 million roubles, for example. On the other hand, one may feel safer with a patent; the whole idea of the patents was to improve the responsibility level".

Rafael Mardanshin, a Deputy from the United Russia and the head of the party project “Comfortable legal environment”, prepared the amendments upon a request from the Chelyabinsk Union of Journalists.
