The USA declaration of the “piracy” rampage in Russia is politically motivated, say the experts

The experts questioned by RAPSI believe that the inclusion of Russia into the Priority Watch list by the USA is politically motivated.

According to the document published last Friday by the Congress workgroup on fighting international piracy, the Congress recommends that the USA government should pay special attention to the resolution of copyright violation problems in Russia, China, Ukraine, Switzerland and Italy.

The document says: “Lack of copyright observance in those countries causes much harm to the American authors and our economy as a whole”.

The situation in the Russian Federation is different from the one perceived in Washington

Denis Shumskiy, Advocate at the Law Firm "YUST", believes that “the appearance of this document by the US Congress is mostly politically motivated, caused by the wish to create a negative information background around a number of countries and to exert pressure on them”.

The expert is of the opinion that Russia has created efficient legal mechanisms of fighting copyright violations, including those which occur in the Internet space. D.Shumskiy declares: “Said mechanisms are successfully employed by those rightholders, who really want to protect their rights”.
