02.11.2012

The award ceremony of the finalists of “The way to profession-2012” award was held on November 1st. The award winners and jury members – professors and practicing lawyers – gathered in the Hall of the Academic Senate of the Law Faculty of the MSU. The MSU graduates, Partner Artem Kukin and Head of Practice of Litigation and Arbitration Alexander Yevdokimov, represented the Law Firm "YUST".

Evgeny Sukhanov, Doctor of Law, Head of the Civil Law Chair of the Law Faculty of the MSU, delivered the opening speech. Marina Lushechkina, Associate Professor of the Law Faculty of the MSU, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Legal Insight magazine, congratulated the finalists and told of the novelties and results of “The way to profession”.

This year is the year of the fifth anniversary of “The way to profession” competition. The Award opened the way: following “The way to profession”, other scientific competitions for students started appearing in other regions. Marina Lusheschkina mentioned this and pointed out that such competitions “are doing a single important cause”. Then she told that 135 works participated in the event, including one work from the University of Geneva. It was specially mentioned that the jury had checked the works very thoroughly with the use of the “Antiplagiat” system.

The competition was tough: the awardees gained 14 points of 15, and the winners – 15. Some winners received extra points for creativity.

Most of this year’s works had civil law subjects, in particular – the issues of corporate relations. A.Rubanenko of the Higher School of Economics – National Research University won the special prize from the Law Firm "YUST" for her work on international arbitration.

During the round table, Artem Kukin and Alexander Yevdokimov spoke to the finalists of the Award and told of their own student’s life experience and the beginning of their careers in 1990’s. The students were interested in the nuances of the practical work of a consulting lawyer, of relations with clients, asked questions regarding the tendencies of the law market development.

Artem Kukin shared his view: “To succeed in the profession, one should always accomplish more than it is expected of him”. He believes that a qualified lawyer “should permanently study, so that new horizons could be opened”.
