Themis receives her own hymn
The traditional solemn ceremony of awarding the highest law award “Themis” for 2012 occurred on February 12.
The Moscow Lawyers’ Club, the Lawyers’ Association of Russia and the International Lawyers’ Union are the co-founders of the award. The company “Consultant Plus” was the general partner of the event, and the Themis Foundation was the organizer, with participation of the Law Firm "YUST", the Federal Notary Chamber, the “Yustitsia” Publishing House, the Russian Advocates’ Guild, the Moscow Municipal Notarial Chamber.
As per tradition, the event was opened by the special cancellation of collector’s stamps and envelopes of the series “Prominent lawyers of Russia” in the memory of the outstanding Russian lawyer, Academician, Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vladimir Kudriavtsev, laureate of the Themis Award.
Recalling the remarkable scientist, Academician Andrey Lisitsyn-Svetlanov, Senior Partner of the Law Firm "YUST", and Henry Reznik, President of the Chamber of Advocates of the city of Moscow, in their welcoming speech pointed out the wide range of his scientific interests and the outstanding organizer’s abilities.
Federal Judge Elena Povorova and the Director of the Legal Culture Development Foundation Alexey Latseyko were the announcers of the awarding ceremony this year.

In the nomination “Justice”
Vladimir Isaychev, Adviser to the Chairman of the Higher Court of Arbitration of Russia, for his participation in the elaboration and implementation of the federal goal program “Development of the judicial system of Russia” and his creative actions (moved by the HCA of Russia and the Moscow City Section of the Writers’ Union of Russia).
In the nomination “Commonwealth of Independent States”
Georgy Avornik, Chairman of the Lawyers’ Union of the Republic of Moldova, Dean of the Law Faculty of the Moldova State University, Doctor at Law, for his contribution to the development of international professional contacts of lawyers, for strengthening the friendship between citizens of Moldova and Russia (moved by the International Lawyers’ Union).
In the nomination “Russia and Europe”
Johan Backman, Chairman of the Anti-Fascist Committee of the Republic of Finland, for active civil position and legal assistance to protection of the Russian-speaking families and children in Finland (moved by the Association of Children Ombudsmen in Russia).
In the nomination “Law School”
The Institute of State and Law of the Russian Academy of Sciences for deep interdisciplinary research of theoretical possibilities of typology of the law on social and cultural grounds (moved by the Co-Chairman of the Lawyers’ Association of Russia Sergey Vadimovich Stepashin).
In the nomination “Public Service’
Grigory Karasin, Secretary of State – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, for his contribution to the creation of a new mechanism of cooperation of Russia with the compatriots, who reside abroad (moved by the Foundation of Support and Protection of Rights of Compatriots, who reside abroad).
In the nomination “Law Making”
Gennady Cheremnyh, Notary Public, member of the Board of the Moscow Municipal Notarial Chamber, Doctor at Law, for active participation in the elaboration of the draft Federal Law “On notariat and notarial activity in the Russian Federation” (moved by the Moscow Municipal Notarial Chamber and the Oleg Kutafin Moscow State Academy of Law).
In the nomination “Legal Service”
Nikolay Dubik, member of the Board of Gazprom OJSC, Head of the Law Department, for elaboration and quality legal support of the projects of construction of transfrontier gas pipelines Blue Stream, Nord Stream and South Stream (moved by the Russian National Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce – World Business Organization).
In the nomination “Economy and Law”
Vadim Chubarov, Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Doctor at Law, for significant personal contribution to the development of the civil legislation and employment of alternative means of dispute settlement (moved by Veniamin Yakovlev, Co-Chairman of the Lawyers’ Association of Russia).
In the nomination “Advocacy”
Yury Novolodsky, Chairman of the Board of the Anatoly Sobchak Baltic Bar Association, for quality legal support of protection of personal rights and bringing up numerous highly professional lawyers (moved by the Federal Chamber of Advocates of Russia).
In the nomination “Juridical novations”
“Sistema Yurist” Legal Reference System for creation of an original electronic reference system for practicing lawyers in the sphere of small-scale and medium-scale business (moved by the Russian Lawyers’ Guild).
The ceremony was concluded by the Hymn to Themis, lyrics by Vladimir Isaychev, music by Liubov Puzikova. Evgeny Polikanin, People’s Actor of Russia, solo singer of the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko State Musical Theater, was the first to sing it.

The statuette of Themis, the goddess of peace, justice and benevolent laws, cast in bronze in the Bronzek-M articstic workshop according to the project by Mikhail Pereyaslavets, Russian sculptor, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, was handed to the laureates of the Award.
