Many of the permanent participants of St. Petersburg International Legal Forum are expecting this business event in a festive mood. The creativity of organizers in terms of entertainment program is “to blame”. However, before enjoying the cultural events, the lawyers are hoping to work efficiently.
Managing partner of YUSt Law Firm Evgeny Zhilin told the supplement to Kommersant newspaper (St. Petersburg) “Legal Forum” about his expectations from the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum in 2016:
- The fact the forum is held annually proves its necessity and value. It is an excellent platform for acquaintances and establishing business connections with inhouse and consulting, representatives of competing firms, authorities and business. The expectations from the upcoming forum do not change. The lawyers should have more influence on the agenda, the situation in the country. We should set forth a request to the authorities that can find a response in the form of legislative acts and changes to judicial practice. The forum gives an opportunity to set forth specific recommendations for various platforms, representing social interests - for the State Duma, government… We are expecting the forum to show some qualitative changes in the relations between Russia and other countries. Lawyers may efficiently act as “ambassadors of life”. They represent the interests of clients, industry associations, governmental authorities. Together they can form an agenda necessary for promoting common ideas.
The ruble prices for participants have increased a bit, but this increase is within the limits of inflation. HOwever, it is worth the cost - the feedback from the forum is expressed in various forms: new contacts and transactions, as well as new trends and topics. For example, lately the quality of services, qualification and marketing activity of regional lawyers have significantly increased. In their case, even if you are not forming the key issues, your objective is to draw some other benefits for yourself - catch on the tendencies and breakthrough ideas. It is very important for consolidation of the legal profession that in the end we have a unified profession governed by general rules and standards.
