XII Intersectoral Forum on intellectual property: best practices, surveys and recommendations

The XII Intersectoral Forum on intellectual property was held in Moscow on February 29 – March 1, 2012.

Representatives of the Supreme Court of Arbitration of Russia, of the Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia, of the Federal Customs Service of Russia, of the Russian State Academy of Intellectual Property (RGAIS), of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Patent Disputes Chamber (FIPS), corporate lawyers, patent attorneys and advocates took part in the Forum.

Advocate Denis Shumskiy represented the Law Firm "YUST". He presented to the Forum participants a survey of the court practice on settlement of domain disputes for the last 12 months and gave recommendations to the rightholders:

  • How to fight dishonest registrar, who do not provide the information on domain administrators, which is necessary for discovering culprits and preventing the facts of violation of exclusive rights;
  • What remedies the rightholders have in the cases, when the violating domain if administered by a foreign person outside the Russian territory, or when the violating domain is outside the Russian domain areas (.рф, .ru, .su).

During the two days of the Forum, the participants were able to:

  • Discuss the modern trends in patenting and the activity of WIPO;
  • Analyze the draft changes to Part IV of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation;
  • Learn practical strategies of protection of means of individualization;
  • Study the best practices of intellectual property management,

And attempted to give answers to the topical questions of commercialization of the rights to scientific and technical activity results.
