Lawyers have assessed the perspectives of the advocate’s monopoly

Alexander Bolomatov, Partner of the Law Firm “YUST”, discussed with the Pravo.ru portal the completion by the Russian Ministry of Justice of its work on the concept of regulation of the legal services market. According to the concept, the advocate’s monopoly to court representation will be gradually introduced.
Alexander Bolomatov says that the variant of the reform is “fairly lenient and conflict-avoiding”, while, in his opinion, “notable changes will appear within the six months of the implementation of the concept”.
The project of the concept is to be submitted to the Government of Russia this week and approved by the end of the year. The reform will not include in-house lawyers, public officials, notaries and patent attorneys. According to the preliminary estimate, up to 2 million lawyers will have to pass the Bar.
