Zenit demanded revocation of forfeit and 13 million roubles. Everything about the appeal filed by the Saint Petersburg club in Lausanne

15.05.2013

Mikhail Prokopets, Head of Sports Law Group of the Law Firm "YUST", speaking on the air of TV Rain, commented on the results of the “Zenit case” consideration. The Sports Court in Lausanne passed the judgment on the Zenit FC complaint on May 14.

We remind that a firecracker was thrown at the field from the stands of Zenit during the football game Zenit vs. Dinamo on November 17 of 2012, which injured Anton Shunin, the Dinamo goalkeeper. The Disciplinary Committee of the Russian Football Union imposed forfeit on Zenit. The club did not agree with it and initiated proceedings in the courts of sports arbitration.

Zenit demanded a forfeit for Dinamo and, respectively, three points for Zenit itself, and 13 million roubles exacted from the RFU as lost profit from two matches without spectators. Besides, Zenit made an alternative request: to finish the match or to play a rematch.

The Sports Court in Lausanne (CAS), just like the Russian sports courts before it, did not heed Zenit’s arguments and dismissed the complaint. The declaration will be published in two or three months. See here for more details.

M.Prokopets also explained why the judgment by the CAS is final and cannot be reviewed on its merits.

See the TV channel website for more details.
