Round table “Verifying weight of loaded containers”

On March 31, 2016 the Round table “Verifying weight of loaded containers” took place in St Petersburg, organized by Russian Corporate Counsel Association with support of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation.
The event was dedicated to amendments to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) that enters into force on July 1, 2016. These amendments impose an obligation on consignors of containers to undergo a procedure of weighing the loaded container pursuant to an established method and obtain certificates in an established form. In case of absence of proper certificates issued by competent authorities shipment of containers may be prohibited.
In the course of the event, the planned procedure of verification and obtaining relevant certificates was discussed with representatives of the Ministry of Transport of Russia, which is the authorized regulator on this issue.
Among the participants of the discussion were partner and head of tax and customs law practice of YUST Law Firm Maxim Rovinskiy, senior lawyer of Isakov, Afanasyev, Ivanov Law Firm Vsevolod Vasilyev, as well as directors and senior lawyer of ports, terminals, shipping companies.
