Economy tends to conviction

The amount of criminal cases with economic character have been increasing since 2013 according to the draft report of business-ombudsman Boris Titov. Last year the amount of respective registered crimes exceeded 260 thousand, in 2015 – 255 thousand and in 2014 – 212 thousand. The amount of convicted in such cases is considerably less. 80% of these simply do not end up in court.

Alexander Bolomatov commented in the "Profil" (Profile) newspaper that civil law instruments of commercial disputes resolution tend to be substituted with criminal law instruments: "The desire to get the support of the state power makes the entrepreneurs take these protective and aggressive measures against competitors, ex-partners etc. There should be a clear division of public and commercial spheres".
