Participation of the partners of the Law Firm “YUST” in the round table discussion “Advocates’ services in the business sphere”

On 29 September 2006, a round table discussion was held in St. Petersburg on the subject of “Advocates’ services in the business sphere.” The round table was organized by the Federal Chamber of Advocates of the Russian Federation. Among the participants of the round table were the Vice-President of the RF Federal Chamber of Advocates, Senior Partner and Chairman of the Board of the Moscow Region Bar Association “Law Firm “YUST” Yury PILIPENKO and “YUST” Partner Alexei POPOV.

Other participants of the round table included representatives of leading Russian advocates’ bodies that specialize in the rendering of legal services to business. The round table was chaired by Evgeny SEMENYAKO, the President of the Federal Chamber of Advocates of the Russian Federation.

The discussions at the round table centered on the current problems facing contemporary advocates’ bodies that provide legal services mainly to large and medium business (so-called “business advocacy”).

Particular interest was aroused by the discussion of possible directions in the development of competition between Russian advocates’ bodies and foreign consulting and law firms, and also the improvement of acting legislation on advocacy in relation to the problems of the development of the institution of business advocacy.

At the suggestion of E.SEMENYAKO, a permanent working group on problems of business advocacy was established with the Federal Chamber of Advocates of Russia. This group is composed of V.BUROBIN (Managing Partner of the Law Firm “YUSTINA”), A.POPOV (Partner of the Law Firm “YUST”) and G.SHAROV (Vice-President of the Federal Chamber of Advocates of Russia).
