As reported by the press service of the Russian Federal Nuclear Center-All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Experimental Physics (RFNC-VNIIEF), the management of the company's own security precluded an attempt to illegally mine the crypto currency. A criminal case has been opened against RFNC employees.

The lawyer of the "YUST" Law Firm Igor Pastukhov, explained to Kommersant newspaper that there is no criminal punishment for itself, but the actions of the employees of the nuclear center can be qualified as causing property damage by abusing trust (Article 165 of the Criminal Code), as they involved working computer and could spend its resources and a large amount of electricity for mining. The maximum sentence for this article is five years imprisonment. In addition, Mr. Pastukhov notes, last year the law "On the Security of the Critical Information Infrastructure of the Russian Federation" was adopted and the actions of engineers could fall under Article 274.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Illegal Influence on the Critical Information Infrastructure of the Russian Federation." "A supercomputer can probably be attributed to such an infrastructure." If a violation of the operating system rules caused harm to it, the employees of the nuclear center may face up to six years in prison," the lawyer believes.
