Lawyers do not believe in humanization of the Criminal Code

The Supreme Court of Russia promises to continue working on liberalization of criminal legislation. The judges remained dissatisfied with the quality of the law after correction of their initial proposal. The provisions rejected by the parliament will be proposed again.

Chairman of the Supreme Court Vyacheslav Lebedev declared that the attempt of decriminalization of a large number of Criminal Code articles will be repeated. The State Duma provided liberalization of the law to a far lesser extent than the Supreme Court proposed. Moreover, the most crucial points were amended or eliminated from the project that was publicly supported by president Vladimir Putin several times.
