Workshop “Law Application Issues and Practices related to Physical Culture and Sports in the Russian Federation” was held in Moscow under the auspices of the Law Firm “YUST” from 23.06.2009 till 26.06.2009.

The workshop was attended by officers at the professional football clubs, including representatives from the football club “Zenit” and the football club “Moskva”, chief accountants and in-house lawyers at the clubs.

The following participants took the floor: S.V. Alexeyev, a professor at the Moscow State Law Academy, D.I. Rogachev, an assistant professor in the labor law and social security law department at the Moscow State Law Academy, a legal counsel to the Minister for Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy of the Russian Federation, O.A. Shevchenko, a senior lecturer in the labor law and social security law department at the Moscow State Law Academy, and M.A. Prokopets, a senior lawyer at the Law Firm “YUST”.

A wide range of issues was covered at the workshop related to updates in the sports-related laws of the Russian Federation and foreign countries, including access permits to participate at a competition, club and athlete licensing, intricacies of entering into the labor contracts and those of contents in the labor contracts with respect to physical culture and sports, world sports movement regulation, intellectual property related to physical culture and sports, etc.

Mikhail Prokopets, a senior lawyer at the Law Firm “YUST”, addressed in his speech the issues related to sports sponsorship, disbursements of the budget for professional sports, and legal status of athlete’s agents.

It is planned that such workshops will be held annually.
